This morning, a friend got an email from ZOS saying his account had been suspended for 72 hours due to "gold duplication". This has affected quite a few traders on PC EU. He has, of course, submitted a ticket.

The e-mail then went on to state that "We cannot allow Cheating & Exploitation via Gold Duplication", listing a few citations from their ToS. If he had actually violated any of them, I will eat the shoes of someone with a nasty foot fungal infection.

The players caught up in this ban wave really suggest there are a number of innocent bystanders to someone using duped gold to buy their stuff at the traders.

The response from ZOS seems a bit harsh. As my friend suggested, why not write something like "Greetings! We are investigating a possible gold duplication exploit on PC EU, and in the process we suspect that your account has been affected by this. Gold duplication in ESO means (.......). We have temporarily suspended your account while we make further investigations into the matter. https://9apps.ooo/
We apologise for any inconvenience this is causing you and promise to keep you updated on any developments. If we find that your account has not been involved in violating our TOS. your account will be unsuspended and this warning will be stricken from our records"

Would make it a whole lot easier to accept having an account suspended like this.

Have anyone else had issues with this in the past (or are affected by it now) and want to chime in with their experience?

I hope they get things sorted out. At least it's only a 3-day ban-- as if that makes it any better, although permanent account suspensions would obviously be worse.

Frankly, I don't even understand how gold duplication can occur at all, but neither do I want to know-- someone might have to kill me after they've told me, as the joke goes.

But seriously, if there was duplicated gold changing hands, maybe ZOS felt it necessary to lock down all involved accounts while they investigate in depth? Presumably the innocent players will get their accounts unbanned, while the guilty players might lose their accounts permanently? I don't know; I'm just speculating out loud. It's so hard to know much about these sorts of issues, since ZOS won't discuss disciplinary actions and will shut down discussions of disciplinary actions.
