So, me and a friend of mine where discussing something.

Would it be possible to travel to provinces which are controlled by rival alliances?

Par example: you are a Nord, is it possible that you can travel to Valenwood?

I believe most of the PVP takes place in Cyrodill, so it's possible?

Actually I've heard you won't be able to... I'll try to post my source later.

As far as I've heard, they haven't really given a definite answer outside a couple comments along the lines of limiting travel outside of faction provinces and similair things in an attempt to strengthen faction loyalty/togetherness

Actualy I watched a video a few days ago stating you would NOT be able to travel to enemy controlled provinces. I'll go look for it.

EDIT: AH HA. Found it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1dqCjnATWg

Look at around 4:15 if you don't want to watch it all.

Just make multiple characters. It wouldn't make sense to quest around an enemy's territory anyway.

Many people would like to have one main character in MMOs. And yes, it would make sense from a gameplay perspective if they kept all PvP to Cyrodiil. Why limit the world they've created? So stupid.

Now there is no way to do certain dungeons, raids or quests on your favorite character without having to create another one. Really [&@%!] about this tbh.

I dont mind that much, I was planning to make a character for all three factions anyway. I would prefer it if we were allowed into other provinces though.

Yes, they do, but then we also have what in my day were just called "alts" - your alternative, second and third (and so on) characters that were different from your main. It really was never a big deal and actually very, very common. I agree with legoless and think the restriction makes sense given the faction warring, on top of making it a more challenging game for your creativity! I think it'll be fun.

How does this work if you want to adventure with friends, though?

Since all PVP will be in Cyrodiil I would think you wouldn't be able to travel outside of your own faction's realm unless going to Cyrodiil.

@Avron: That's why we're setting up the guild sub-forum, right? ;)

Yes, I meant, if they are in other factions, you just join up together on a separate plane, I assume?

I am behind my news updates in the MMO, so forgive me. S'wit and all...

My guess is you would have to be in the same faction to go adventuring together, but who knows. Maybe that's where alts come in?

I don't like alts. I like to have one character, do endgame dungeons and raids and make him/her the very best. Just my way (and many others) of playing an MMO. I understand others like to roleplay and whatever but after all it's an MMO. We're supposed to be playing this for a long time (especially if it's p2p) and limiting their world is just flat out stupid in my opinion.

Maybe if you help the campaign so someone becomes emperor, in your phase the world will be at peace and you can travel freely? It's unlikely, but I can already see that there is dissent among the fanbase about this decision so maybe they'll patch in a solution.

On the whole friends thing, it's not like these restrictions are a new thing. I hate to compare ES:O to WoW, but it is the most relevant comparison. On WoW you chose Alliance or Horde, and could not communicate with the opposite force. You could travel to their lands I beleive, but you were killed fairly quickly. So if you have friends you all have to decide on one faction. This is the moment when not having gamer friends could be considered a plus. I can choose whatever faction I want, because I will always have no friends.

Uhhhh..... yay?

Ugh, really?
One more reason for me to be even less excited about this. -____- I guess it makes sense, but it's still buzz kill.

i believe there should be some scenario which would allow you to travel outside your own faction; special quests or something. One of the game's major appeals, for me anyway, is that it covers all of Tamriel. It seems like such a waste to not allow it all to be experienced.

It can all be experienced. There is nothing preventing you from rolling alts. The game has three distinct main storylines. One for each faction. I think maybe the reason we can't go everywhere as everybody is to provide with a fresh experience on subsequent play throughs. I'm fine with that.

That is a good point. Still a bit of a bummer, regardless.

I feel the exact same way. Building up your character, especially in an MMO, should be a long term process. To then spend time working on an alternate when you've put so much time and effort into your main seems completely idiotic. It just feels like such a waste of time.

Never played an MMO much, the most I've done is play the free version if WoW and Runescape. But I'm of a complete opposite opinion in alts. I love playing the story from a different perspective, and it helps to have a break from using the same character all the time and getting bored with them. The only problem I have is sometimes I like the alt better than my previous character and just end up with the alt as my new main.
