A place to discuss and ask questions about the first adventure game in the Elder Scrolls universe

I found a used copy for about 25 dollars on Ebay but am unsure if I'll enjoy Redguard seeing as it is a very different game to the others in the series. Anyone played it and have any comments on how it plays in comparison to Morrowind?

Well good luck getting it to run on your Operating system.
It only runs on Windows 98 from my experience, and that required me to set it up on a virtual PC. And it didn't work so well, so I held off from playing it.
But if you do get it working, do tell.

I do have an old 98 lying around, so I might try on that. I just don't know If I'll enjoy it that much.

Well it ain't an RPG. It's a single player linear game. As an attempted spin off series. So it'll be different.

I always saw the gameplay as a mix between Daggerfall and Morrowind, although controlling Cyrus around is about as difficult as controlling a pregnant cow

And wiki contributers always need to play it to confirm bugs, glitches, easter eggs, etc.

And just to add to the pot, part of the reason I tried Arena was because I couldn't run Oblivion on my old PC, and I was looking for more TES. Oblivion and Morrowind hooked me into the series, so I had to explore its other aspects.

I find myself almost pretty juiced out with Oblivion now. But I can never get bored of Morrowind

It was too well handcrafted to me. Almost reminds me of playing the old Pokemon games, very nostalgic
I DL'd the DosBox's of Arena and Daggerfall to get more TESeyness. LOVED them! My god.
Arena was wonderful, but Daggerfall was the universe.

I ran it in Virtual Box on my Windows 7 with Windows 98 installed, I was also able to get it to run in Wine on Ubuntu Linux, I had to modify it a tad but it was nothing major, I have excellent PC hardware it ran like a charm

Just finished playing Redguard (glide version) under dosbox ykhwong build 12.25.2011 running on XP, but using nglide wrapper 0.98. See the nglide FAQ "Does nGlide support DOS Glide games?" for how to use nglide together with dosbox.
The game worked perfectly (including Clavicus Vile's domain). Is great fun as well.

Did Redguard with nglide in dosbox have music playing as well? I tried the nglide method but found that the redbook audio stuttered over the same note repeatedly...

I downloaded a free demo of Redguard a while back, but couldn't play it because I lacked the hardware (?) for it, I believe, being on a much more modern PC than Redguard was designed for. I may try an older PC at some stage.

Music played fine. I ripped CD2 to bin/cue files (saved under c:\Games\Redguard\CD2\) and specified
imgmount d c:\Games\Redguard\CD2\redguard2.cue -t iso -fs iso
in dosbox.conf, which may have helped.
