Post subject: | Question RE: Mod that Lowers System Requirements |
I'm thinking that I might get Skyrim once I get a new computer, which would be sometime in September. The downside is though that I am unable to afford one that meets the video card requirements despite being able to get one that exceeds the RAM and CPU requirements. However I've heard that like with Oblivion's Oldblivion there is a mod or two floating about that allows Skyrim to run on older computers. I am unable to find the link to this mod however so I was wondering if anyone here knew where I could find it. In other words, could someone please provide me with a link to that Skyrim mod that allows it to be run on older machines that don't meet the video card requirements? |

Realistic Lighting Overhaul helps, but it also makes dungeons much darker, so it's not for everyone. Personally I love it and I think it improves immersion. Are you buying a laptop or a desktop computer? |

I'm going to be purchasing a used or refurbished desktop computer. It isn't an option for me to purchase a new computer because of financial issues and because the PSU on my current and rather ancient computer has some PSU issues. By ancient I mean the computer I am posting this from predates Morrowind. I had heard and even been linked to a mod for Skyrim which basically allows it to be run on older video cards. Think Intel GMA 3000 and/or Radeon X300, cards that won't run Skyrim without this mod. It's like Oldblivion, but for Skyrim. I've done numerous Google searches after having forgotten to save the link to said mod, which I was given sometime last week by someone on an anonymous imageboard. I'm certain that it does more than just make lighting realistic, though I thank you for your help so far. Has anyone seen this Skyrim equivalent of Oblivion's Oldblivion lying around? I'm pretty certain it was on the Skyrim Nexus, which I'm going to try searching next, but seeing as Bing is choosing to refer me to Ron Jeremy baking cookies and Google is referring me to motivational speeches whenever I search for just about anything these days I don't have high hopes for being able to find it on the Skyrim Nexus myself. |

The Nexus is dying right now. I wasn't even able to log on the last time I was there. I haven't heard about a mod like this for Skyrim. Have you checked the System Requirements page to see if the older card might in fact be able to play it? |

Also it looks like the Radeon X300 will need that mod I am looking for to work. |

My PC is older, and I use HiAlgo Boost, a Nexus mod. Without it, the games is 10-20 fps, and with it the game is 30+ fps. Thus it makes Skyrim playable. IMHO that is the thing to do. |

I tried out hialgoboost and unfortunately it crashes my game. Did a little troubleshooting, but I can't find the reason. Is there something that's known to cause conflicts with that mod (other than the stuff mentioned in the FAQ, checked that already)? My game is definitely playable as is, but it can get a bit clunky in combat, so I wouldn't mind a slight framerate boost. |

^What operating system do you have? I also got crashes when trying that mod, and (eventually) found out that it doesn't work with Vista. ![]() |

XP, due to the ancient motherboard and unwillingness to install Vista. ![]() |
