My roommate and I have been wondering something. If we each have a copy of Skyrim we're playing on the same PC, will the mods one of us installs show up on the other's mod files list? Let's say I add the mod Inconsequential NPCs to my game. Will that mod show up in the list of mods he has installed since we're both using the same PC? I'm hoping to get Skyrim Legendary edition soon, so I can play the game on my own Steam account and earn my own achievements, and I plan to add several mods I don't already have installed. Been wondering if anything I install is going to have an effect on his game or not. I'm assuming it will since we'd basically be using the same Skyrim files like we are now, but wanted to ask and be sure. That way if I'm right, I'll know to tell him all the mods I add so he can remove whatever he doesn't want.

It's hard to say... Are you running two separate accounts on one computer, or playing on the same account, same computer?

I think it would depend on where the files are located and how you're accessing them.

Right now we're using the same Steam account, on separate PC profiles. Our current set up lets us pick which mods we want to use without having to change it every single time one of us plays, but if either of us installs a new mod, that mod shows up on both profiles until the other unchecks it from the Data Files section. When I get my own copy of Skyrim for PC, we'll be using the same computer still, but I'll be playing through my own Steam account instead of his.

I may be wrong but I do not think separate accounts on Steam is going to help. The game and mod files are all in one place on your computers hard drive. So you are sharing the game files between the two of you. When one of you adds a new mod it will show up for both because of this. The only solution I see working is creating a second steam install location for Skyrim on a different drive, assuming you have more than one hard drive, and naming the game short cuts in such a way that you can tell them apart.

The ideal solution would be a second computer but that costs money and I understand if that is not possible. The cheaper route would be to add a second hard drive and install a second copy of Skyrim on it. Or you could just keep on doing what you have been doing.
