Rough Seas- A Tale of Pirates!

Image

Hidden:

The time is August, 1716. The place? The Caribbean, and then the entire world. Pirates, such as Edward Teach and Calico Jack, roam the seas, using their weapons, reputation, and guile to gather their fortunes and large amounts of rum.. It is among men like these that you will achieve reknown. But will it be as the next great pirate, or the one who brings them to justice? In this time of superstition and curses, who knows which path you shall follow?

Combat
All combat is based on a dice roll, but please try to be as descriptive as possible. Odds are affected by your skills. PC's can kill each other once the introduction is complete. If your character has abilities, they can be used in combat. During ship-to-ship combat, please describe your and your ships attacks.

Hunger/Thirst (As borrowed from Hope Falls. Thanks, MM!)

Guidlines
-No godmodding
-Try to avoid OP characters
-You do not have to be a Captain. You can choose to be a crew member for anyone. Or you can Co-Captain with anyone willing.
-Captains are not locked into positions, a mutiny can happen. If this does occur, common procedure is to leave you on an island with one canteen of water and a single pistol with enough powder for one shot. It is up to you to find an escape and regain a ship and crew.
-All pirates shall serve under or be allied with Commodore Nathaniel O'Farley, the option to become independant shall be presented at the end of the introduction.
-All others serve under the Crown of their respective Nation.
-Alleigances can be changed, but only once or twice, if you can give me a good reason.
-If you want to give your character an ability or curse, please PM me so we can discuss the details. All abilities must come with a downside or acompanying curse, as to prevent complete and utter domination of the seas. If you can't think of something, I will be glad to help.
-I understand that sailing does take time, usually 3-10 days depending on the distance traveled. I will try to keep things interesting by giving you as many oppurtunities for adventure as I can. It is up to you, or your captain, to act on those oppurtunities.
-Any treasures gained will be divided by the following passage, which is subject to change as needed by me; All receive equal shares.

Hidden:
Name: Nathaniel O'Farley
Sex: Male
Age: 26
Physical description: Approximately 6' 1" and heavily muscled, Nathaniel can be very intemidating upon first sight. He has red-hair and a medium length beard, along with a scar just under his left eye. His eyes are a piercing green.
Personality: A somewhat humble man, Nathaniel often credits his successes on his crew rather than himself. He prefers the title of Captain because he believes that Commodore is too presumptuous, and largely let's his fleet remain independent. Nathaniel is anything but cruel, and prides himself on his ability to leave none dead.
Weapons and related skills: Despite his personality, however, Commodore O'Farley is often heavily armed, with his sword and at least three pistols on him at all times. The Commodore is an excellent swordsman, and decent with a pistol.
Apparel:
Spoiler:
Image

Backstory: With a pirate father and a mother who died during childbirth, Nathaniel was left at an orphanage that has now long closed down. At the age of 13, Nathaniel's father, Jack, came for him. For several years, he worked as a simple chore boy, learning the hardships that a crew would have to go through. But when Nathaniel's father died of some unknown disease, he learned that his father had conspired with rest of the crew so that when he had died, Nathaniel would be made Captain for one year and then a new captain would be chosen. As fate had it, Nathaniel turned out a better Captain than even his father, earning the ship more plunder than they had ever seen. Naturally when the election rolled around, Nathaniel was kept as Captain by a unanimous vote. From there, he went from Captain to Commodore and gained ships that became grander and grander, though he still keeps and uses his father's ship. Recently, Nathaniel participated in a duel with Nuah Ch'tal, whose draw resulted in them becoming allies..
Allegiance: Pirate
Ships type/size, Description, Name: The Black Wanderer is a medium sized Sloop-type vessel, with 20 cannons on the tope deck and 20 more below, and two masts. It has a crew of approximately 30 men, all of whom are fiercly loyal, and are mostly members of Nathaniel's father's crew. It is mostly painted black, with some blue and white accents.
Pirate's Code for your ship: The only rule that is on the ship, is Do what is honorable.
Your flag: A skull with two quills crossed, which represents the 'diplomacy' that the Commodore uses to gain his riches.
Abilities: Some say that he has the ability of extreme persuasion, though none have been able to confirm it. Others say that he has been cursed to feel the death that he might inflict upon others, which is why he is hesitant to resort to violence.
Other: He does have a pet capuchin monkey, which he has named for his father.

Character Interaction Start Date: July 15th, 2013

I'm considering joining but I'm not sure if I should be Pirate or something else or even captain or on someone's ship.

That's fine, Justice. Like I said, it won't start until at least mid-July.
Really, it comes down to what you want your character to be after and whether you want it to be legal or not. As for the captain or crewman part, its whatever you want. I've got three different crews right now, so it's nothing if you want your own.

>_> I'm on edge about joining too. Namely because I'm nearing finals... still, I already know I want to be apart of a crew. Debating on a curse<_< can make things interesting and even comical^_^ still, I presume you'll add more npc's to the notable's list. I wouldn't mind being apart of O'Farley's

On the side<_< someone could easily be a musician, adding relief to the crew and enjoyment of simple tastes. Pirates do love their booze and music

Right now, O'Farley is the only one I have planned, but I'm sure I'll have plenty more once most have sent in their sheets. And I honestly don't expect this RP to move at fairly blistering speeds. Even being generous with sea monsters and other ships, I'll have to orchestrate time skips for the sailing and still keep everyone at the same time.

Alright! Sounds all good Archer^_^ I was just wondering in case I make a choice and later found a more interesting chap>_< though I am sure in-game I'll be as loyal as a cup of tea. I only got a week or 2 of classes<_< so I'll be sure to submit one afterwards.

Wouldn't hurt to brush up on details and facts of the era I say, if anybody is interested I found a site that may help as it sure is for me

I've begun to formulate my character. If anybody's going to be a pirate captain, shoot me a PM and I'll join as part of their crew. If I don't get anything, I'll just be on O'Farley's ship.

Oh, and just making sure that it'd be okay with Archer: I'm intending to be a ship's cook. You could say it's... a recipe for awesome. Sorry.

I would also like my character to be on someone's ship if that's alright, because I don't want to be the only person on a ship :'(

Okay, I'll try to organize everyone into crews once I have the majority of the ships and captains set up.

EDIT: Added a little to the guidelines, just be aware that abilities WILL come with a downside, just so that the advantage is not too great.

Alright, here we go.
Let me know if something's wrong.

Spoiler:
Name: Alistair North
Sex: Male
Age: 19
Physical description: Shoulder-length brown hair, stubble growing in the shape of a beard. Blue eyes, stands at 5'10". Athletic build, and overall quite attractive.
Personality: Flirtatious, charismatic, and roguish. Self-centered when it comes to money, but otherwise quite caring when it comes to other people. Is a bit of an altruist and can't ever pass up a beggar without putting a bit of money down. Generally a nice person with little tolerance for bigots and big-wigs. Has an anger problem. Alistair often finds himself distracted by beautiful women and fancies himself to be quite the womanizer, but when a woman actually accepts his advances he becomes quite nervous and timid. Overall, he puts up a wall of false experience and bravado but is still quite naive.
Weapons and related skills(Please list from most skilled to least skilled):
-Self-taught combat skills (Uses Longsword and sword-breaker dagger in combat)
-Good shot with a pistol
Apparel: A black captain's cloak taken from a renegade captain that he had hunted down, with a white linen undershirt. Wears black pants with a blue sash and a silver-buckle belt around the waist. Wears black boots with steel toes. Wears a bandana around his forehead with the design of the Union Jack.
Backstory: Born Alistair Lancaster II, Alistair was born a noble in the town of Port Royal, as the son of two wealthy British plantation owners. Never one to stay still or pay attention during classes (except during music lessons, which he loved), Alistair regularly left his plantation to visit the lower areas of town near the docks, where all the sailors gathered. He learned much from friendly old sailors wishing to pass on the tools of the trade.
When he was 15, he changed his last name to 'North' and stole away on a ship bound for Tortuga and never looked back. For the past 4 years, Alistair has proven himself a prodigy in the ways of combat, music, and charisma, and is often called upon for boarding and face-to-face combat with the blade. He serves with many ships, usually opting to serve Privateers for Britain or France. He considers himself a freelancing pirate over all, however.
Alistair's true goal is to eventually have his own command when he is older, but for the moment he is content with serving as a lieutenant.
Allegiance (Any seafaring nation, or Pirates.): Pirate
Position that you desire: Lieutenant
Ships type/size, Description, Name (Only if a Captain, Please describe the scope of your weapons, and the shape of your crew.): N/A
Pirate's Code for your ship (Optional): N/A
Your flag: N/A
Abilities: N/A
Other: Skilled in the playing of the Violin and can also sing a raunchy tune to keep the morale up.
Despite being a pirate, Alistair can't bring himself to abandon proper English and refuses to speak slang.
Having largely ignored his studies as a child, Alistair lacks a great understanding in mathematics. He understands basic history and knows literature well enough to be literate.
Though a pirate, Alistair would not object to serving on a British ship. In matters of war, he wouldn't object to directing his vessel to aid British vessels either. He is still a bit of a patriot at heart.
