Title: Stuck In A Room II
DM: Musicman247
Setting: Present day, present time.
Number of Players: 10-12
Premise: You wake up in a room, trapped with other people you may or may not know. How do you get out? Can you get out?
Start Date: Friday October 5, 2012

Rules and such:
- If you do not post at least once every two days (48 hours) I will drop you, unless you notify me ahead of time.
- If your one post every two days is not substantial (ie. "Bob looked around.") I will drop you.
- Do not cheat. Play as your character, not yourself.
- If you want to whisper to another character via PM that is fine, but add me as a recipient of the PM.
- This is not SIAR I. This is a different room with different rules and different objectives. Don't think you know how this is going to go down because you have no freaking idea.
- Have fun.

Background: Born to a middle-class family in North York on the outskirts of Toronto, Pete eventually set his sights on becoming a video game designer. However, after graduating with his degrees, an opportunity never came forward, and he found himself without his dream job. He was, at least, with enough money to buy a small empty two-story building near downtown Toronto with a second-floor loft, which he turned into a video game store and residential flat for himself.
Current Address: Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Occupation: Owns a moderately successful independent video game store (lives in a small flat above the store).

Hobbies: Whenever he isn't working in his store, he can usually be found playing video games (mainly retro) or on the Internet. He doesn't get out much, and most of his friends are just his neighbours or people he met online.

Eltee
Spoiler:
User Name: Eltee
Character Name: Naomi Green
Age: 18
Ethnicity: Multiracial, Afro-Carribean father and white mother.
Physical Description: Naomi stands 5'7. She has shoulder-length black hair, which she prefers to keep in tight ringlets and dyed with streaks of blonde. She has almond-shaped hazel eyes, and light brown skin. She is relatively slight. She uses glasses, and very much needs them for looking at anything more than three metres away. She has a pointed chin and a heart-shaped face. She only got her braces off a month ago, and there are still faint but noticeable stains on her otherwise white upper teeth that she is irrationally vain about.
Background: Naomi is Canadian-born, and her father is an immigrant from Jamaica. Her mother is a Toronto native, with a typically North American blend of the British Isles, France and Germany in her ancestry.
Current Address: Toronto, Canada. She and her family live in an apartment.
Occupation: High School, and she is hoping to go to Ryerson University for journalism. She also works part time at a Pizza Pizza.
Family: Naomi lives with both of her parents, her father Isaiah, who works at a Ford plant, and her mother Ally works as a secretary at a nearby hospital. She has a younger brother, Bobby. Her grandparents on her father's side live in Jamaica, and they fly down every few years to spend a Christmas with them. Her grandfather on her father's side died less than a year ago. Her grandparents on her mother's side more or less disowned Ally when she married Isaiah. Ally's bother and sisters, though, remain in regular contact, and Naomi sees her cousins regularly.
Hobbies: Naomi heads up the school newspaper, and she is an avid follower of news, both municipal, provincial, national and international. She is also a reader, with a special affinity for her cheesy romances and an only marginally lower interest in the stacks of beaten up paperbacks she picks up for a song at her local bookstore.

Arch-Mage Matt
Spoiler:
User Name: Arch-Mage Matt

Character Name: Ethel Holt

Age: 79

Ethnicity: Caucasian American

Physical Description: A rotund, slightly wrinkled face and twinkling blue eyes, she still retains a certain rustic charm. She is short at 5’7 and stands slightly hunched, just slightly overweight. Ethel has short white hair, curling just before it reaches her ears. At the time of the abduction, Ethel was wearing a pink tank top with yellow flowers, white slacks, sandals, a tan sun hat, designer sunglasses, and a thin, cotton, white jacket.

Background: Ethel was born in a small town in Maine, in 1937. Ethel was raised on a farm but didn’t feel like that life was for her. She wasn’t sure what she wanted to do with her life, but before she was in her mid twenties she knew she had an interest in politics, which was helped by the fact that her uncle was a US congressman. She ended up becoming a personal aide of John F. Kennedy just months before his election to president. She stayed with him throughout his years in office, until he was assassinated. She was not in the motorcade with the President, but she was only feet away, in the front of the crowd, when it happened. Ethel went on to become an aide to several small time politicians, including her uncle. In the ‘90s she became a regular commentator on a History Channel show reviewing America’s politicians and presidents. She wrote a book in 1998 about America’s old glory and what could be done to regain it. In 2003, however, Ethel was diagnosed with a Alzheimer’s. It has progressed, although slowly.

Ethel currently lives in Washington D.C., in her daughter’s home. She had a husband, William Holt, who died in a plane crash in 1981. She did not re-marry.

Nowadays she walks the streets of Washington D.C., going to the historic sites. Her joke is that she knows D.C. as well as L’Enfant and she goes to museums every day because ‘there is always something new to learn or someone new to teach’. On her free days, her daughter Agatha accompanies her.

Current Address: 18 Duke’s Avenue, Washington D.C.

Occupation: Retired

Relations (Another Player): N/A

Family:
Daughter: Agatha Jamison
Son-in-Law: Nolan Jamison
Grandson: Wade Jamison
Grandson: Lucas Jamison
Son: Arthur Holt
Daughter-in-Law: Mary Holt
Granddaughter: Riley Holt
Grandson: Terry Holt
Granddaughter: Celia Holt
Grandson: Isaac Holt
Son: George Holt
Son-in-Law: Tim Smith
Deceased Husband: William Holt

Hobbies: Walking through the streets of Washington, going in the museums, volunteering in American History classes in the local schools, playing bingo, attending grandchildrens’ soccer and football games.

Avron the S'wit
Spoiler:
User Name: Avron the S'wit
Character Name: Emily McDonald
Age: 17
Ethnicity: White
Physical Description: She has freckled skin and sandy, thin straight hair that falls in long layers past her shoulders and tends to have a mind of its own. She is of average height and rather thin, and has an oval face with healthy lips and a small nose.
Background: In most respects, Emily appears the typical teenager. She grew up in a quaint and busy town, owns a cat, appreciates shopping for the latest trends, and likes to admire boys at the local diner. The only atypical thing about Emily is that she does it all in silence. A childhood illness stole her hearing, and she has lived as a member of the Deaf community for the last 15 years, using a mixture of signed language and written English to communicate with her peers. Emily appears rather smug and confident, but only in familiar settings; thrown into something unusual or in an unfamiliar place, she is prone to anxiety, particularly when unable to communicate. Originally from the midwestern US, her family has relocated to Canada. She hopes one day to be a writer, and enjoys an editorial position at the school paper.
Current Address: Vancouver, BC, Canada
Occupation: Student
Relations (Another Player): Deandra (from community badminton team)
Family: Mother, father, older brother
Hobbies: Drawing, badminton, creative writing

Imp
Spoiler:
User Name: Imp
Character Name: Matthew Christopher Coon
Age: 14
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Physical Description: Tall, pale, long face, long nose, defined chin. Brown and thick curly hair, brown eyes. Slightly chunky.
Background: Matthew was born into a kind world, being forgiven for his occasional fit that he threw. He was quickly discovered to be shown as a very smart child, knowing all the prime numbers up to 7,027 at his current age, and exceptional amount for his younger years. His mother moved out when Matthew was five due to the fact where she couldn’t take him anymore. The father told Matthew that she died, hoping that it would ease it over Matthew more that he was left due to his disorder. But, the father was good enough person to stay with him. There was little to no bond with him and his father all the way to age fourteen. He spends most of his days doing math, watching TV, playing minesweeper on the computer, eating, sleeping, and using the bathroom. All of these events are rigidly scheduled by him. Recently, his father explained to him that the mother was still alive. To this, Matthew said nothing, and went to bed. At night, he made the decision to hide in the bushes outside the house. Mathew was afraid that his father would do something to harm him. This is where he was where he was last when he was sent to ‘The Room’
Current Address: New York, Brooklyn
Occupation: Unemployed, (student?)
Relations (Another Player): None
Family:
Ed Boone-
Ed Boone is Matthew’s single father, and struck his son once, because he was speaking to the man that left with his wife. Ed Boone became increasingly angry throughout the act of raising Matthew.
Judy Boone-
Left Matthew, and divorced Ed. She moved to London. She wrote letters to Matthew, but Ed stored them away, and recently shoed them all to Matthew
Hobbies: Doing math, mine sweeper, watching television.
OTHER:
He knows a very great deal about math, and very little about human beings. He loves lists, patterns and the truth. He hates the colors yellow and brown and being touched. He has never gone further than the end of the road on his own road. He was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome at an early age.
Matthew did not understand human emotion. In reality he was very logically smart. He could do many hard math equations in his head and understand difficult technology. He wanted to become an astronaut when he found out what they are, and was fascinated with space travel. When he became frightened or upset, usually in a small crowded place he put his hands over his ears and groans/screams.
He goes to a private school for those with special needs, and takes a month to usually gain enough observations to converse with someone.

Sounds good, Leilah.

If I get too many applications I will open a second room (would have been SIAR III) just to keep the groups small.

Further clarification: You can be any age from anywhere. English does not have to be your character's native language.

I have had an anonymous user suggest that we make the application system open and not PM-based. Their reasoning is it is too easy to make similar characters without even knowing it.

My thought is that not knowing anything about anyone gives you a true sense of disorientation when you start the game.

So I'll put it to a vote. Poll will be up momentarily. Hold all submissions until we have a decision regarding the submission process.

What if only some of the information was public? I like the mystery of not knowing anyone else. It encourages you to think outside of the box for how to be unique (like Deandra being a child in SIAR I).

How bout we just post the basics publicly? With additional information submitted to Musicman via PM.

Hopefully that would give us the best of both.

By "basics" I mean, name, age, gender, and a hint as to their profession/background or something.

On second thought, this might be harder than I thought...

The anonymous user was suggesting only the basic information, not the full character sheet.

The problem, as Believe pointed out, is how much info is too much? How much is too little? The situation the anonymous user (AMM) described would have only been found out if occupation were listed in the public information. That can give away a lot right there.

@Frosty: No. Never.

Maybe just age, appearance, and current address is enough. Those are things you can find out about a person in a few seconds or minutes of conversation. The rest is stuff you would discover as you got to know them. You wouldn't know deeper things about a stranger, right?

I think just age and appearance. They are two things you can tell by looking at them.

I suppose gender would be a given with appearance.
