Yosemite State
Ring-a-ding, baby.
In the years right before the Great War, when America was at its worst, Yosemite was closed down as a tourist attraction. Instead, loggers from the government came in and in just a few months, nearly all of the Giant Sequoias in the park were taken down and used for emergency resources. Quickly after that, the park lost its luster. If the Great War never occurred, precisely a month after the bombs fell, Yosemite would have been turned into a large nuclear plant.
Since Yosemite was so sparsely populated at the time of the Great War, only one warhead was sent to its location – at a Ranger Monitoring center for illegal activity on the park grounds. In a miracle, the warhead proved to be a dud, while creating a large hole in the Station, left the majority of Yosemite radiation free.
With the infamous Black Rain that fell after the War, all of the outside plant life and animals in Yosemite ceased to exist – but there were survivors.
Thanks to an elusive group known only as the Protection Society, many native animals and plants were herded into a secret vault – code named Vault 3080, referring to the park’s size.
The Protection Society was one of the many groups to predict the Great War – to help lessen the effects, they protected the animals in Yosemite. Species including Deer, Beavers, Owls, Foxes, Squirrels, Snakes and Birds are among the species saved, as well as many flowers and plant life.
But a month after the Great War… no one knows what happened specifically. A riot in the Society, a technical malfunction… and most of the animals, now frenzied, fled into Yosemite Park. All they had to drink was the irradiated water, and this did not turn out well.
As the animals mutated, the Great War claimed another pre-war marvel. Yosemite became unlivable, ravaged by mutant beasts. Several of these beasts include:
Beaver Beasts (BB’s): Rabid little monstrous versions of pre-war beavers. Their teeth are miniature chainsaws and their tails have enough strength to break a bone if it hits a human or ghoul. They attack anything they see, including their fellow BB’s. It is speculated by the Yosemite University that they can reproduce by themselves, and that as soon as a BB reproduces it’s baby kills the parent.
Yao Gui:
Typical Yao Gui seen all over America.
Owlmen:Known Pre-War as “Owls” these things resemble the Pre-War “Owlman” myth. There has never been one recorded sighting of an Owlman in the daytime, but they are the most dangerous killers in Yosemite at night. They travel in packs, and seem to ambush a traveler by suddenly appearing in a circle around them. It is commonly known that if the traveler moves, the Owlmen strike. The Owlmen can sometimes stand in a circle around a traveler for hours doing nothing, waiting for the traveler to move. Because of this, they are called the Shadow of Yosemite.
Radsquirrels: The Squirrels of Pre-War became ravenous and bloodthirsty, their teeth became tiny razors. They are more of a nuisance than anything else, but you NEVER want to stumble into one of their many nests. You will not return.
Giant Snake: As it turns out, radiation was very poisonous to Pre-War snakes. Only a few survived to me mutated, but those live on to this day. Giant Snakes are up to twenty meters long and three meters wide. They mostly live underground but when they strike they usually kill their victims. Their bite can transfer enough radiation to kill you within a week.
Eventually, though, as all places did, Yosemite received a new inhabitant. Raiders. Many raiders.
Two gangs, to be correct. They set their turfs, and for over twenty years battled each other, until they finally had one, ultimate battle.
Two two gangs, the Rippers and the Great Khans, almost destroyed each other. They retreated into the small corners of Yosemite and were no longer a threat no anyone wanting to settle Yosemite.
So, a group of rogue scientists, rumored to be of the Enclave, moved in. Salvaging material found in nearby cities, they created the Yosemite University – the first recorded University of the New World.
Later, a small organization formally called Gina’s Wanderers, stumbled across Yosemite. Collaborating with the University, they established the Yosemite State – Gina’s Wanderers became GYP - Gina’s Yosemite Police. The University became a crucial part of Yosemite State, serving as the brains.
Later, a small group of Ghouls moved into an underground cavern and created another community. Little did they know, the community boomed and the Ghoul’s population is about half of the people of Yosemite State. The Ghouls established the Republic of Luther.
Factions in Yosemite:Yosemite State: The government, made up of the University and the GYP. It is lead by two people: Chris Hamlon, of the University, and Pauline Gina, a descendant of the original Deborah Gina. Three cities were formed, from salvaged parts of nearby cities. Bunnell (Location of University) , Clark, and Muir (Location of NYP Headquarters) named after famous Pre-War Yosemite figures. Estimated population: 8,000 Loyal to University – Not counting Robots -, 15,000 loyal to GYP, 10,000 Republic of Luther Ghouls, 40,000 Yosemite State Citizens, 5,000 other, mostly gangs and savages)
The Yosemite University of the Future: Most commonly called the University. The people of the University, lead by Chris Hamlon, are scientists, doctors, and overall geniuses. They were based off two Pre-War groups: Harvard Collage and MENSA. The University trains people and educates them, trying to bring the knowledge of the Pre-World back. The actual University is in Bunnell. The University keeps order with the help of GYP and a small army of Robots, Securitrons and Sentry Bots. The University uses energy weapons as its primary weapon and it’s advanced soldiers wear power armor.
Gina’s Yosemite Police: Commonly referred to as the GYP, founded by Deborah Gina but now lead by descendent Pauline Gina, these people were originally nomads who wanted to settle. When they found Yosemite, they quickly formed several cities. The University is bitter because the GYP ruined their chance to study natural animals and mutants. Their headquarters are in Muir. They protect many places over Yosemite. Generally, the people of the GYP are more uneducated and action oriented. The YPD uses automatic weapons and advanced combat armor.
The Republic of Luther: A community of Ghouls living in an amazingly large underground cavern. Their leader is Gerald Patterson, the child of a Pre-War couple. RoL get’s it name from a Pre-War hero who fought for freedom. They are slightly misinformed, however, as the figure’s name was not Luther, but Martin Luther King Jr. Sadly, Yosemite State’s leader Chris Hamlon is extremely prejudiced against Ghouls, and Pauline Gina has no opinion. The Yosemite State only allowed the Ghouls to live on Yosemite Grounds because they are so large in numbers. The Ghouls are slowly trying to incite a incite a Rebellion to overthrow Yosemite State’s current leaders. The Ghouls use energy weapons as their primary weapons, as well as bought Mr. Gutsy robots from all over California. They wear clothing padded with leather armor, and any Ghouls that turn feral are kept and released upon their enemies. Important political figures that turn feral, that doesn’t happen often, but it has, the Republic kills out of mercy.
Lesser Factions:
The Rippers: A minor Raider gang that used to rule Yosemite State’s city’s territories. They are bitter that YS took the territory they view as theirs and continues to harass people of Yosemite State. Leader: Selmar the Crooked
The Great Khans: Another minor Raider Gang, the Khans once owned the territory that the Republic of Luther now control. The Khans are a very large problem for the Republic, constantly killing Ghoul traders and any who venture out of the Cavern. Leader: Papa Khan
The Protection Society: It is a belief that the Protection Society, held in Vault 3080, is still waiting for a time to make Yosemite green again. In some people’s views, the PS is nothing more than a myth, but for others, they are gods. There are some people who believe that the Protection Society will solve all of the current problems in Yosemite, if they’d only reveal themselves and take control of the situation. Some believe that the Society holds data of the previous United States government and could create a new world altogether.
The Towns and Cities in Yosemite:
Bunnell: A large city in Yosemite Valley named after Lafayette Bunnell. The University is at its center. Bunnell is widely regarded as the Capital of Science and Technology in the world – to the irk of the Brotherhood of Steel. Speaking of them, of course, it has been rumored that Brotherhood terrorists live in Bunnell. Bunnell has many small features that make it futuristic: Protectrons roaming the street, Power-armored scientists protecting the city, lights that can be seen for miles, and advanced Emergency-Response services. The presence of the GYP has increased recently in Bunnell.
Clark: Located just outside Yosemite Valley. Referred to as the “Middleman City” Clark, named after Galen Clark, is a small but largely populated city near Muir and Bunnell. The city is equally monitored by the University and GYP.
Muir: Located in Pre-War Yosemite Valley Named after John Muir, it is the headquarters of the Gina Yosemite Police. The entire city is built modeling a Pre-War military base. Crime is almost nonexistent and the Murder per month is only .67 for the entire city. A large portion of the area is restricted for military personnel, and the rest, there are multiple police officers per street.
The Cavern: A large cavern inhabited by the Ghouls. Despite popular belief, there are buildings and natural houses made in the cave. Anyone trying to enter the cave who is an unknown will be blown away by three Ghoul guards wielding fat men.
Carvon: A town taken over by The Rippers.
Gilsville, Ciceroy: Towns taken over by the Great Khans.
Kiernan: A popular tourist attraction because it is believed that Vault 3080 is underneath the small town of Kiernan. The citizens prosper from the business of selling Old World animal figurines.
Ferris, Zerox, Nashing, Welding: Other small towns
Lake Mirror: A community where Mirror Lake was Pre-War.
THE CONFLICTTension grows between the University and the GYP. The Univeristy believes that they deserve more control and that the GYP should be purely a police force, not a part of the government. The GYP believes that The University shouldn’t hold any power but be teachers, and that they are studying ways to create a Robot Army to overrun the GYP.
THIS IS VERY TRUE, and it is indeed what The University is doing. This is Top Secret, of course.
The State hates the Ghoul presence, but as far as the citizens know, the Ghouls are only civilians. They could easily kill every last Ghoul, but their popularity would drop so largely that they would crumble as a government.
Meanwhile, the Republic of Luther is taking advantage of the Government’s weakness and is planning an ultimate attack on Muir and Bunnell. They plan to run a free government, where Ghouls and Humans can live in peace. They want to overtake the Univeristy and the GYP and run it themselves. They really want Chris Hamlon and Pauline Gina to die.
WHAT YOU DO!!!Make a character, doi. Your character can be in any of the factions save the Protection Society. They are fighting the other factions, remember. The GYP and the University silently. The Ghouls are fighting openly, but lack numbers. The GYP are undoubtedly the strongest faction, but they lack creativity. If they had it their way, they would make an all out attack on the University, and damage their numbers. The University would prefer subtlety, and build their Robot Army to completion. Could one of the Raider gangs make a comeback? Not likely. But if they made an alliance with a faction then betrayed them at just the right time… anything is possible. You can be from any town mentioned, and you can also not belong to a faction at first, and be a rogue. REMEMBER – You are indeed fighting the other factions. If another player is on one of the other factions, so be it. No turning to another faction unless you have good reason. Once everyone has chosen a faction and character, I will start the openings.
