Post subject: | Creating an entire new fantasy universe for a roleplay |
Well, yeah. Basically, I'm trying to write the lore for a fantasy universe that I'm creating for a RP. It will contain a full section of lore, each of the sections that will be in the Lore are on This page. So far I've written the bestiary, it is heavily inspired by TES, and there will be many similarities. Anyway, here is the bestiary. I haven't come up with a name for the continent the RP will be based on, which is why it says "NAME" in some places in the bestiary. It would be appreciated if you guys helped me come up with a name. Anyway, here it is. A: Abeni, small, crab like creatures that tend to shy away from anything bigger than them. The Abeni hide in small holes in tropical areas, usually near a beach or the steamy jungles of the East. They are quite common, and usually harmless, however, their tiny claws have left many a traveller who got too close with a few cuts and nicks to prove it. Aclumen, Small, parrot like birds that dwell in the treetops of the humid jungles in the East. They rely on the Abeni and many small grubs and other insects for food. Aurohnan, savage humanoids that are common to the plains in central NAME, the Aurohnan’s have no need to breathe, and spend most of their time underground. They attack on site, riding domesticated Awoeit into battle wielding crude stone swords and axes. Arecus, a large, two headed creature that roams in the snowy mountains of northern NAME. An encounter with the Arecus is quite rare, and living to tell the tale is just as uncommon. Awoeit, huge worms that hide in the sand dunes in central NAME, they are blind, but very sensitive to noise and movments. Walking above them, or being loud in their presence, has made many a traveller into the Awoeit’s dinner. An encounter with these massive creatures is very common; surviving an encounter is far rarer. B: Bear: bears are large, vicious predators. For more information, see entries on Black Bear, Brown Bear, Grizzly Bear, and Snow Bear Bear, Black: a smaller variety of bear. Bear, Brown: a larger, more dangerous species of bear. Bear, Grizzly: A powerful animal that can attack not only with its powerful jaws, but with both front paws. Found throughout the wooded areas of NAME. Bear, Snow: A white bear with an icy bite. Common to the snowy mountains of northern NAME. Bre, similar to a horse, the Bre originate from the hilly plains of the West, but are used as mounts for armies all over NAME. Buj, large grubs that hide under hot rocks near volcanoes, their mouth is full of razor sharp teeth, the Buj latch onto their prey and suck the blood out of them. Usually leaving the unfortunate victim completely dry. Byen, a herd animal that lives in the plains of the West, the Byen graze on the abundance of grass and shrubs that grow in the plains, many have been domesticated as their strong shoulders are excellent for ploughing fields. Their sweet milk is also quite a delicacy amongst the upper classes. Bzat, large winged insects that buzz around at dusk, they are general harmless, but if provoked they let of an innocuous, yet smelly gas. C: Cave Rat, a common rodent found in most underground habitats (like caves, for instance). Common Rat, a rodent found all over NAME, usually found hiding in dark corners. Cheria, huge, tentacled beings that dwell in the deep sea far off the eastern coast of NAME. The Cheria has been known effortlessly drag large warships under the water with its enormous tentacles. While a sighting is rare, you don’t want to be in this beast’s waters when they’re hungry. Creeper, the Creepers are distorted, half-human, half-beast creatures transformed by a mysterious force into powerful magical beings. Creepers are highly intelligent, aggressive, and dangerous. They can afflict their opponents with a variety of deadly diseases as well as attacks that will leave their victims with strange wounds. Vicious burn marks on one side of their body, and the other side could be frozen solid. Their attacks are unpredictable and common; the Creeper is one creature to be VERY afraid of if you’re out sailing. Centurion, the ashes of a dead knight are poured into the armour of a deceased Centurion, the ashes are then imbued with magical power, giving the armour life. D: Deer, common throughout the woodlands scattered around NAME, Deer are quite skittish and will flee at any sign of danger. Demon, blood red, tall, and full of dark magic, Demons are to be feared. Their faceless heads are a gut wrenching sight to even the most hardened of warriors, and a single punch could render even the strongest of fighters unconscious. Demon, fire: a stronger, fireball throwing version of the Demon. Demon, flesh: although immobile, this variation of the Demon will let out an ear splitting, blood curdling yell if anything it registers as a threat gets too close. Demon, frost: almost exactly like the fire, but instead of fire, this Demon will freeze anything it touches. Deroti, a larger, reptilian form of dog, the Deroti have been trained by savage tribes to be ridden into battle. Diseased, the: piles of stinking, rotting flesh that stumble around on two stubby legs. The Diseased carry disease and poverty in their wake, one touch from this disgusting creature will have you coughing up blood within the minute, and dying within the next. Dog, a common domesticated animal descended from wolves. Dragon, rarely seen flying through the clouds, these fire breathing monsters are often said to be nothing but a legend. But stories of old have told of the Dragon Riders, a select group of men chosen by the emperor himself to fight the frontline in many battles over time, all riding on the backs of dragons. E: Eversong, a small, gaseous cloud that floats throughout the woodland areas of NAME, for the most part, they are harmless, though breathing in the Eversong has been known to cause nausea and headaches. F: - G: Gargoyle, stone statues that have been imbued with life, depending on how they were sculpted, their abilities may range from being able to fly great distances to being dangerous in battle. Ghoul, these undead are the carrion eaters of dungeons, crypts, and other burial places. They feast on human corpses and other rotting flesh. Although they are not intelligent, they have a natural cunning that aids them in finding food. Ghost, spirits of the dead that didn’t make it to the afterlife, most Ghosts, being driven crazy by living after death, will attack anything on sight, to kill a Ghost; anything that isn’t silver is useless. Giant, a tremendously large creature that can deal great amounts of damage to an unwary adventurer. Usually, this damage dealt, is being crushed by its extremely large feet. Goblin, Goblins are humanoids that are native to the forests and deserts of NAME. They range in size from three feet to over eight feet tall. Their eyes are yellow and resemble a cat's. The goblin, much like the orc, is found in various types all over NAME. Although they are not skilled in fighting nor casting spells, Goblins are almost always in large groups , or clans, and are dangerous in these large numbers. There are many different ranks in Goblin clans, ranging from Warrior to Chief. H: Horse, a domesticated animal used for travel. They may occasionally be eaten, but this is considered in bad taste. I: Imp, this small, playful creature is somewhat intelligent and can cast a variety of spells. They have been known to be domesticated, but this is considered bad practise, as they are quite unreliable creatures. J: Jackal, large, stone cast statues with the head of a dog and the body of a human. Jackals wield huge golden swords and attack with great strength and speed. They are found in the ruins of structures that once stood tall in the desert regions of NAME. K: - L: Lelia, the peaceful people who dwell in the many large lakes that are scattered across NAME. They are capable of building large structures out of nothing but sand, and are extremely intelligent and powerful healers. Lich, liches are exceptionally powerful undead humanoids. They are typically highly intelligent and are skilled spell casters. They are created when a powerful mage seeks to escape mortality by becoming undead. M: Minotaur, A half bull, half man creature, that roams the wilderness of NAME. Mountain Lion, vicious wild cats that roam the mountains of NAME, the Mountain Lion is a rapid and merciless attacker, and are quite deadly when encountered. N: Neyil, beautiful ,graceful creatures that are incapable of attack, and can only use restorative magic. They are known to be quite rare, and a sighting of one of these beautiful creatures will bring a tear to even the most hardened of men. O: Ogre, large and dim witted, the ogre is a humanoid found throughout the woodland regions of NAME. Their attacks, while slow, are quite strong. Oum, reptilian herd animals that stand hunched over two stubby legs, they have been domesticated and used on farms to plough fields and protect crops from birds and other pests. P: - Q: - R: Roc, massive birds that rival even the mighty Dragon. Whilst they are often domesticated and used as travel for royalty, they are known to be quite dangerous, as their talons could rip a man clean in half. S: Skeleton, a common undead creature wherever evil lurks. Although not a very dangerous foe, many an unprepared adventurer’s lives have been taken whilst exploring dungeons with Skeletons about. Skeleton’s carry a variety of weapons, ranging from a simple shortsword to a huge warhammer. Stryu, carnivorous plants that grow in clearings in the steamy jungles of the East, their massive mouths can swallow a grown man whole. T: Troll, trolls are dangerous creatures with great strength and amazing regenerative properties. Even after death, they will regenerate within the hour unless burnt. U: - V: Vampire, The vampire is one of the most powerful and feared undead found across NAME. Somewhat less powerful than a Lich, the vampire is more feared by its ability to turn those they bite into vampires themselves, a fate often described as worse than death itself. Even if the bite does not render one a vampire, there is still a good chance that the target will catch porphyric haemophilia, or as it is more commonly known, Vampirism. Typically vampires are both outstanding fighters and spell casters and should only be approached with extreme caution. Vampires are usually found in Clans, though lone ones are common. W: Werewolf, The most common of lycanthropes found everywhere in NAME. It can attack with both its claws and teeth and can inflict lycanthropy on anyone it bites. X: - Z: Zombie, A weak form of undead, however, they are still to be feared as they can inflict whomever it touches with terrible diseases. |

This does seem quite interesting, and I might join in on something like this, I read that whole post. Can normal people be Vampires too? I'm thinking of being one, but it sometimes causes problems in roleplaying as I can't be out in sunlight, the same kinds of problems I encounter in real life as well. So I'm thinking I'll probably not choose to be a Vampire, although maybe some other character could be, unexpectedly. I'll have trouble thinking of a character that isn't too generic as well... |

Well, it'll take at least another month to write everything up. So I wouldn't start planning a character yet, but it will be a "Free for all" roleplay to an extent, so Vampires will be playable, yes. |
