"And you hoped to do this by telling them to kill themselves," Yalveni said, "No one needs you to educate them on the obvious. No one needs you to tell them of anything. You don't think about anything before saying it, obviously, so you shouldn't say anything. You want to know my orders? Shut the [&@%!] up."

"They may as well if the orks blood end up in their bloodstream but that's if they survive tonight." Navariësé informed Yalveni.

"If you talk again I'm going to light you on fire and throw you over the walls," Yalveni said with obvious strain in his voice.

The Wall



The soldiers just stood there looking rather obviously anxious. Navariësé's idea of a grand, rousing speech seemed to have failed. Or, perhaps it had succeeded, if what she wanted to arouse was the feeling of hopelessness and imminent death.

Ronin

"They are all legionaries. The general has felt that the area that you shall be concentrating on is most vital to the survival of the palace. Your soldiers and trained and deadly and, most importantly, they'll fight until they're slain... if it comes to that." Aventor stated, leading them out into the busy plaza, where the injured limped towards the safety of the palace, ferried along by a current of peasants who were being taken to the security of the palace.

Navariësé did not intend to give them a speech but she did intend to give them some information about the orks to try and give them an idea of what they are up against. "But if you are expecting some form of speech, you're looking at the wrong woman. All i can say is fight for more then yourselves. Fight for your wife and children. Draw upon your memories and use that to reinforce your will to defy Norkel by ensuring his orks don't touch them. And ignore your fear." She told the men.

Yalveni shot a jet of fire right next to Navar's head.

Navariësé didn't flinch when the fire missed her head but knew that Yalveni was actually being serious. So she decided to remain silent.

Gailen ran his hand across the bow silently. Satisfied, he looked up. "Good bow, but tragic story," he murmured, "The Baron said something about armor, as well?"

"I'll do my best to make sure it doesn't come to that," said Ronin as he continued on with Aventor.

The Wall

The soldiers looked rather pleased to see that their main detriment in morale had been silenced by their commander. They had been quite confident in their ability (well, the shield's ability) to repel the orks, until Navariësé had arrived and had begun to spread misinformation and fear amongst them.

The Baron's Armoury

"Aye, that he did. What do you prefer? Heavy armour? Light armour? In between? None?" he asked, chuckling at his own joke.

Ronin

"That's what I want to hear." Aventor smiled, clapping Ronin on the back. "And I'm sure your men will want to hear you say that too. When I say they're the best of the best, I mean it. Some of them have fought in multiple wars against many enemies. More than I've faced in my lifetime."

Navariësé knew she should have kept her mouth shut but didn't want to risk having most of the men flee when the ork blood touched their skin. She knew she was very rubbish at giving speechs and vowed to herself that if she survived tonight, she would leave the talking to Eandire. Or whoever was in charge if they ended up in a battle like this again. She remained quiet as she looked for some arrows.

Gailen grinned. "Light armor would probably be best."

The Wall

It was not long until some guards were sent to the walls pushing large wheelbarrows full of arrows. The entire armoury had been depleted in an attempt to supply all the soldiers with an adequate amount of arrows. Navariësé was handed twenty arrows, as were the rest of the soldiers around her, or, at least, the ones who carried bows.

The Baron's Armoury

The soldier passed Gailen a suit of iron chainmail. It was light but it would keep most stab attacks from orks at bay. Also, he was given a leather overcoat to provide more protection from attack. Still, though, he was at risk from blunt weapons.

"I'll return in a few minutes. Be ready by then. We must be at the walls soon."

Navariësé placed the arrows in her quiver and took one out to inspect it.

The arrows were of low quality. They were cheap and quickly made by the palace blacksmith, who had been working tirelessly to forge more arrow heads to provide for all of the soldiers. The feathers were light and the wood was flimsy, however, it did not require much to breach orkish or goblin armour and many of them, especially the grunts, would be clad only in fabrics.

Navariësé was content with the arrows she had recieved. She put the arrow back in her quiver and waited for Yalveni to start issuing orders.

Gailen struggled into the armor. He strapped on the quiver of arrows, and slung the bow over his shoulder. He walked around the room, getting accustomed to the armor's weight.

The Baron's Armoury

Gailen found the armour rather restrictive but light enough to allow quick motion. It would not impend his speed, though, perhaps it would make him less agile. Luckily, for most of the battle, he would be away from his enemies rather than engaging them in direct and close combat.

"They sounds like very capable soldiers," said Ronin. "But, since they're so good, why not give them each their own units to command? Not that I'm complaining, of course, just wondering...?"

Ronin

"That is a good point, but, you see, the only thing that we have in abundance is of an officerial nature. While our legionaries and guards were devastated in the first attack, our officers and lords survived in a rather large number. Not due to cowardice, although, some certainly did flee to safety as soon as possible." the captain replied.

Ronin

Ronin and the captain arrived at the wall to find Ronin's legionaries waiting for them at the wall. They were armoured typically as legionaries, however, some of them had circular shields, having lost their traditional, square shields in the initial attack. A few of them had lost their gladii and pila and had resorted to normal swords and bows.
