"Well, I guess we know why we throw them in holes." Riva muttered. "Probably because they are generalizing, bigoted, stereotyping jerks."

More loudly, she asked, "Do you know how many demons I've thrown into holes? Or my colleagues have?"

Invictus frowned and glanced around. His recollection of how he had gotten himself here was non-existent. This was confusing! Alas, it soon dawned on him what this was! A trick!!! A demon's trick! Or so he thought. He tried again to see if there were any entrances or exits from the Plaza.

There was still no inkling of any exit. The angels around him was beginning to notice Invictus, dressed as a guard as he was, a lot of elderly angels silently shaking their heads at his confused display of searching. Meanwhile the cake eating frill-ball was still engrossed in the cake.

Riva, Imhotep, Timon

The demoness made a gesture which roughly translated as "Up yours!"

Alida and Cato

The heptarch and his brother up ahead were still conversing with each other.

"None," said Imhotep, answering Riva's question.

"Let's go talk to him, I suppose." He motioned for Alida to lead the way.

Cato and Alida

The duo of angels were still chatting away a little while further down the road.

Imhotep, Riva, Timon

The demoness did a rude gesture at Imhotep as well, before turning around and demonstratively facing away from the trio, arms crossed.

Alida led the way towards the duo. Alida felt as if she had taken the lead too often today, it was out of character and it made her uncomfortable; she'd much rather go back to being the unnoticed girl lurking around, but it would appear to be too late for that. As they got closer to the pair she tried to grab their attention.

Imhotep frowned and said, "You're not helping yourself by being mean."

The duo was noticed by the Heptarchs as Alida's slightly awkward attention-seeking caught their eyes, causing the taller of them to wander over to them.

"What ho, citizens?" he said enthusiastically. "Do you need advice?"

Behind him, the smaller waved an awkward greeting.

Imhotep, Riva and Timon

The demoness spat at the ground.

"Just get on with it," she grumbled.

Invictus

All of a sudden, the shops around the plaza all shifted slightly. The cake-eating girl snorted loudly at the same time, before breaking into a helpless giggle.

Imhotep looked at Riva and Timon. "Do we have to do this?" he asked. "It sounds like it hurts down there."

Cato nodded to the man who spoke to them. He decided to let Alida do the talking.

"We're looking for a friend of ours, he's wearing a guard's uniform and..." Alida tried to think of something distinctive about him but failed to "... has black hair. We think he may have mistaken you for someone else." She struggled to meet the giants eyes, partially because of his status but mostly because of how high up she had to look.

Alida and Cato

"Ah, the guard who thought I was a demon!" the giant said. "I was just telling Dacky about him!" he nodded at the smaller man behind him, who was neurotically rubbing his admittedly shifty-looking moustache. He grimaced.

"I don't like that name, Ilianos," he compleained feebly, but went overheard as the larger one continued. "He went that way," he said, pointing further down the way Alida and Cato were heading before. "From what I managed to see, it looked like he took a left down where it begins to smell of food."

"Then we'd be just as bad as she's making us out to be." Riva said ruefully.

Alida bowed slightly "Thank you heptarch , I apologize if the misunderstanding caused you any offence". She always felt awkward talking to nobility.

Cato and Alida

"Not at all," Ilianos said, before turning to his partner. "But really, we should get back to the Palace now. If you'll excuse us..."

He left with his brother in tow, leaving Alida and Cato to find Invictus by themselves.

Invictus

Invictus frowned. He drew himself up to full height and, commanding all the authority that he could muster or was allowed to muster, he marched purposely over to the girl, who he very much suspected was a demon or commanded malign intent.

"You seem to be enjoying your cake." stated Invictus.

"So can we just keep her with us?" Imhotep asked. He turned to the demoness. "Would you like to just walk around with us?"

The girl turned to look at Invictus, revealing that she, in fact, had two ten inch horns above and in front of each ear. From the side, they had merely looked like her hair, thick and dark brown. Her eyes looked regular if not for the dull yellow colour and exuberant mirth they conveyed. She didn't look much older than 12.

"You're funny, you know that?" she giggled.

Riva, Timon, Imhotep

"Go jump in a well," was the only reply Imhotep go from the demoness, still turned away from the trio.

Imhotep frowned.

Invictus

Invictus remained resolute and did not react to the revealing of the horns. A demon-child, as he had guessed. Who else would scoff their food in such an uncivil and mannerless way, were it not a demon? He cleared his throat.

"Funny I may be, but you shall find no room to laugh when you are in a cell. Why have you come hither?"

"Cake!" the child said, lifting the pie with a happy smile. "And how will you get me to any cell?"

There still was no way out from the plaza as far as Invictus could see.

"I don't know what to do..." Riva said uncertainly.

"Well, so far she hasn't done anything except be rude," Imhotep said. "And there are plenty of angels who act similarly." He was remembering the smoking angel who had been so irritated earlier. "Why is that something that is punished by banishment for some, but not others?"

Invictus indeed glanced around and so now no solution to the conundrum towards him which was posed. He frowned and scratched his head and then his chin. The demon-girl seemed correct.

"I shall find a way out of hither, just you watch demon. And then, to the cell thither shall you lie." stated Invictus.
