"Lord Valens informed me you honored strength," Said Hys. "That is why they sent me. I've been in the Arakesh military for over sixty years. I know the battlefield; the ways of war. It will be my honor to serve as the emissary to your land."

I would like to reach an agreement. What if I sent you my Chief Adviser, the woman I trust with my life, to an agreed place to discuss this? Her name is Jhalo Rhommar, of Clan Rhommar. They have served Clan Creox for hundreds of years, and sending her is no belittlement to your honor. Can you agree to this?

Tarquin strode forwards, axe held casually at his side. He was truly a terrifying sight, wearing a cowl made from the sheared manes of his rivals and interwoven with hawk feathers, and daubed in stark white paint.

"You are our prisoners," he ordered, waving his weapon lightly from side to side. "Come quietly, or be ended."

AMM

"That is well," replied Asphodel. "First, would your country be interested in an agreement of mutually open borders?"

Falendred took the long journey outside the palace doors, and through the garden. He liked to write or work in nature, though he wouldn't want anyone to know that. He took along a pen and pencil, and have the bird follow him. He decided to write to Bru'uneria, in hopes of a possible trading deal.

Quote:
Dear High Queen Junodia,
I write to you in hopes of a possible trading operation, along the coast of Ulanvarth. As for logistics, I have yet to begin contemplating, and that is where I need your input, if you would be so kind.

Your ally,
King Falendred

He sent the note with the bird, and continued admiring the scenery. He soon got a chill, however, and headed inside for a nice, warm bath, and perhaps some imported Andyl honeyed-wine that he had the honor to buy when visiting Visaga years ago, before he was king.

"Ohh." The woman sighed. They were at least usually charged with vagrancy or indecent exposure or something before they were arrested. They usually found that eastern Ululula was a good market for exotic arms and armour, and more tolerant of the travellers.

"Okay, sir. We'll come quietly." She said, crossing her arms nervously. "Might I respectfully ask what the charges being levied are?"

General Hys did the Arach version of cocking his head. "Well, Lord... in the effort of strengthening our relationship, I'm sure we could reach that agreement, but I'm not sure why it is requested..."

"I have heard of it, yes, but have not had the pleasure of seeing it myself." Junodia replied. "There has been a space set aside that I suspect you will find to your liking. A manor of stone, just a few minutes away from here. It is our pleasure to welcome you to our fair city." The High Queen nodded, and servants stepped forward with small, ornate boxes, which they opened, revealing fine necklaces crafted of gold and emerald. "Our gifts to you." Junodia said to the diplomats.
---
Meanwhile, a small, somewhat battered ship arrived at the shores of Arakesh. Two Mantises, calling themselves Lord Dreyti and Lord Tomuu'ug, requested to be escorted to the capital city. The diplomats wore necklaces of gold--Dreyti's was studded with amethyst, while Tomuu'ug's lacked any jewels.

A human dressed in simple silks came forward to retrieve the gifts from Junodia, wordlessly. "My apologies," Said Edwy, in an embarrassed tone. The gifts will be sent to the Arakesh Vault, for they are of little aesthetic use to Arachs."

__

On the Arakesh coasts, Dreyti and Tomuu'ug were escorted to the Kelliken Capitol Tower by the local guard, bot not brought to Lord Creox. They were instead lifted to the second highest floor, where a smoky grey Arach with eight deep green eyes was waiting for them.

"Greetings," Said the Arach in a female's voice. "I am Lady Wynn, wife of Lord Creox. The Lord is currently in a meeting with Tarmargar diplomats, but is my pleasure to welcome you to Arakesh. An embassy is being cleared out nearby."

High Queen Junodia quivered with anger. She waved a servant over. "I told you to bring the statuettes up, not necklaces!" she hissed in the Bru'unerian language. The servant girl bowed low to Junodia, and retreated from the room. She came back a minute later, with two other servants, who carried beautifully sculpted statuettes of the local fauna, which were offered to the diplomats. "My apologies." Junodia chimed. "The STATUETTES were meant to be our gift to you; there was a slight mix up. But keep them all, I implore you. They are our gifts to our new allies. You shall be shown to your embassy, at which point, you may choose to do what you wish. Juno City is open to you. Naturally, I request all laws to be followed during your time here--standard ones, really...Theft, murder, though I'm sure you're well aware of such common courtesies."
---
The diplomats bowed to Lady Wynn. "It is our pleasure to meet you, and to be here." said Lord Dreyti. "Shall we head to the embassy for now, or wait here?" asked Lord Tomuu'ug.

King Vrantius sat alone in his throne room. He was eager to gain new land, and had a map of Astrum in his hands. He marked areas which were key interests to him.

As High Queen Junodia was still occupied with the diplomats from Arakesh, she waved away the letter that was offered to her by a servant. She would read and respond to King Falendred as soon as she was able.

Bugger it, Eltee! Exactly when I go to bed!

Scinthimira, Biban, Sprandriia

The court of the Queen was usually rather devoid of visitors. Mostly because the insular Sprandriians was a very secretive nation, and rarely let foreigners inside the walls that criss-crossed the islands and (around Sfighi in the East) the sea as well. It was also because one could rarely be at the Yewbreaker Palace for 3 days before someone asked you to be part of a sinister plot.

On the throne, an ornate piece of furniture made from a single piece of carved black glass with inalid rubies, the middle-aged Queen, Tishikai Arrowcatcher, sat, looking warily around at all times while dictating to her steward, her youngest brother Hanbei, whose job description was specifically to nod in mumble encouragingly whatever his all-mighty sister said:

"We sit smack-dab in the middle of everything. We can't ignore one continent in favor of the other. But we can't stretch ourselves either!"

"Of course, my Lady."

"We need to make allies. We Casilans must stand together, for the glory of Caedin! I need to write some letters."

"Will you be writing them yourself, or will you be dictating, my Lady?" Hanbei asked exasperatedly, already knowing the answer.

"Dictating, dictating... Can't stop being on the lookout. I've got 9 daughters of age, and there's 1 attempt on my life every week! I can't take the attention to write!"

"Of course not, my Queen..."

Tishikai IV wrote:
To Queen Junna of Visaga

This letter is an official writing of Hanbei Yun-Yun Moratichi, Steward of the Realm and of the Heavenly Blessed Queendom of the Sprandrii Islands, dictated by the blessed Bearer of the Diamond Wings, Queen Tishikai IV of the Moratichi Dynasty:

We are very much pleased to hear of Your letter, as even Sprandriia realises that in these times constant isolationism is not an advisable policy. Though we did not know of the minority of Sprandriians settling on your coasts, it pleases us to hear that they do not bother you, and that they keep their nature of not telling anyone, even their original countrymen, that they live where they do.

We would very much like to open diplomatic communications with You, and extend a special invitation to send an ambassador of Your nation to our capital, Scinthimira. This letter will arrive alongside an envoy, who we ask You to allow stay in your nation as ambassador of the Sprandrii, and we ask you to send an envoy of your own to act as Ambassador, should you so wish, at shortest notice.

May You be shielded from the Tendrils of the Snare,
Tishikai IV Moratichi

The letter arrived alongside a greying, friendly looking nymph, who arrived in Naya asking for an audience with the Queen, delivering the letter as proof of her errand.

Tishikai IV wrote:
To King Comrag of Hagard,

This letter is an official writing of Hanbei Yun-Yun Moratichi, Steward of the Realm and of the Heavenly Blessed Queendom of the Sprandrii Islands, dictated by the blessed Bearer of the Diamond Wings, Queen Tishikai IV of the Moratichi Dynasty:

May Caedin grant you worthiness, fellow Casilan. We wish to open diplomatic relations with your nation, and ask you to send an envoy to the border directly south of our Southern capital of Balasian, which we are quite certain You are aware of the location of despite our best attempts to hide it on all documents.

If You can send an envoy to the border village of Queensgate, we shall have an envoy for you to discuss any diplomatic relation, be it friendly or antagonistic, and the potential establishment of an embassy in both our nations.

May You be shielded from the Tendrils of the Snare,
Tishikai IV Moratichi

Tishikai IV wrote:

To the Lord of Arakesh, King Valens Creox,

This letter is an official writing of Hanbei Yun-Yun Moratichi, Steward of the Realm and of the Heavenly Blessed Queendom of the Sprandrii Islands, dictated by the blessed Bearer of the Diamond Wings, Queen Tishikai IV of the Moratichi Dynasty:

We have received your letter with interest, and would like to open negotiations with your nation. As you seem to have expressed the same wish, we would like to extend an invitation for a diplomat of your nation to join Us in Our capital for negotiations. As our streets are not wide enough to accomodate Arachs, though, we would like to implore you to send a human as your diplomat, if at all possible.

With this letter, you should not have trouble getting the envoy past our naval guard. Just make sure he has the letter with him.

May You be shielded from the Tendrils of the Snare,
Tishikai IV Moratichi

@Baloth: Join the club. This is normal for me.

The letter from Sprandriia was never delivered to Lord Creox, who was in meeting with the Minotaurs, or to Lady Creox, who was conversing with the Mantises. Jhalo Rhommar took the letter personally to her private quarters with Fyron Gastrus. "The insolence of outsiders," The adviser spat. "Asking us to send a human. No offense, Fyron."

Fyron shrugged and picked up a quill and paper. "Shall I send the papers to Sprandriia?"

Jhalo grunted. "Yes, but what human can we send so easily?"

"You employ thousands of non-Arachs, they're the toughest people on Astrum," Fyron assured her.

"Enough with the brown nosing, Gastrus." The purplish brown spider said. "Oh, I know. Isn't High Priestess Freki's apprentice a human?"

Fyron nodded. "Indeed, and she's a woman, too. Perfect for the Nymphs. I'll write up the letter,"

Quote:
Dear High Queen Tishikai IV Moratichi,

Speaking on the royal authority of Lord Valens Creox, the Steward of the Throne of Arakesh shall repeat the words of the Chief Adviser, Esteemed Mistress Jhalo Rhommar.

Greetings, High Queen. While it comes at great inconvenience that we cannot send one of our own to your nation, we will make the necessary arrangements. The Scionian Priestess of Sybil, Ophele Southborn, will lead a ship to your capitol immediately, bearing the flag of Arakesh and the documents of Sprandriia.

Jhalo Rhommar of the Kingdom of Arakesh

As promised, several days later a small ship came sailing through the oceans to the Islands of Sprandriia. A lone figure stepped off the ship, a woman of around forty, with graying auburn hair tumbling down to her back and a thin, angular face. She wore a simple grey dress with an imprint of the sun on the chest, the symbol of Sybil. The woman appeared to walk with a limp, therefore carried a heavy wooden staff wherever she walked.

"I am Ophele Southborn," She announced to the guard. Southborn was the name of any non-native, non-Arach that immigrated to Arakesh. "Please escort me to your Capitol." In truth, Ophele was very nervous - she was directing sermons just a few days ago, now she was speaking for her nation, plucked from the church by Jhalo Rhommar.

Spoiler:
Ophele is pronounced how it looks: Oh-feel

Lady Wynn made a strange sound, but stopped halfway through. "I apologize, I often forget outsiders can't understand our body language. Yes, you may take your leave, the Embassy is the third building to the south of here, my guards will show you the way. If we have need of you, we will call."

__

"You are most kind, Queen," Said Edwy Creox. "Do you have business you wish to discuss with me?"

The capital of the windswept islands was indeed built with streets no wider then 4 feet, and the guards leading Ophele towards the towering palace struggled against the windtunnel-like conditions created. the building were all made from red and black granite boulders pieced together as giant puzzles, though tall towers with golden roofs were visible, though the overcast weather didn't do their splendor justice. Ophele could feel the suspicious eyes of the locals boring into her as she was led to the palace, sitting on a low hill overlooking the gigantic harbor.

From a corner of the city, continuous sounds of explosions sounded.

The royal palace, the Yewbreaker Palace itself, was a wide bulding hewn from green and red marble, with 7 narrow towers standing in a circle above the 4 story midsection where the court resided. The city guards left Ophele at the entrance to the palace, where a young girl, looking to be in her early teens, wearing a burgundy tunic and knee-length skirt, her midriff showing between them, otherwise barefoot, but with an odd extension of two crooked, bent black rods with jewels hanging from them extending seemingly from the cloth on her back. Her eyes were dark red, and her hair was black with a random pattern of silver spots making it look like an aging gorilla's fur.

"Greetings, Lady Southborn," she said. "What are your business with the Queen?"

For reasons that we do not feel we would be able to convey to you, as you will doubtlessly not understand them, we will enforce a zero-tolerance policy of any of Your naval vessels in Sprandrii waters. Any vessels discovered will be hailed in escorted out of our waters, or, depending on their response, sunk. This is not a declaration of war, however. We, as Sprandriians, do not feel it is prudent to let people, minotaurs, nymphs or otherwise, to enter our waters without our knowing. With your war-like minds, I'm sure you'll understand this admittedly harsh policy with your own war-like in very honourable way of life.

The letter was read by the student of the aide of the Chief Steward Hanbei's assistant, who threw it away, for even he was aware of how blatantly foolish it was.

He got a payraise the next day.

Merakius Virra chuckled slightly as the letter from Arakesh came, he stroked his blonds beard and thought a bit. He was sitting on his high iron throne. The room was a fire in the middle of the chamber yet it was dark and gloomy; "Helga!" He called out and one of his servants, a small minatour girl, emerged from the darkness; "Brng me the blood of casilian humans, I wish to wright a letter." She bowed and left, in moments she came back with paper, a horn and the blood. Merakius finished writing th eletter and sent it immidatley to Arakesh. The letter said:

Matt

Your proposal pleases me, we will join our armies into one unstopabble herd. I will help you with anything, as long as your armies support my charge against the Casilian Humans in Norstwin.
Mrakius Vierra The Invincible

He then continued with another letter to his minatour brothers across the sea:

Gideon

My brother of faith, in the great name of Oten I ask you for an allince. May we be as one herd, and our endless stampede destroy all.
Merakisu Vierra The Invincible, The Great One of The Brothers of Oten.
