Pete just sighed. "It'll be a while before one of my employees realizes that I haven't just locked myself in the loft for a gaming marathon," he said to Dayton. "But maybe once they do, one of them will call the cops or something and we'll all be rescued."

Emily, once she saw the woman in her line of sight, did begin to cry. She reached her hands out toward her, craving one small connection of sanity in this strange and unusual place.

"I went missing aboard the international space station." said Roman. "I think people will notice. I'll probably be all over the news."

The woman hesitated a moment, wanting to comfort the girl, but not wanting to invade her personal space. But in a heartbeat, emotion took over, and she approached Emily with an embrace.

A young woman began to wake up in one of the beds. She had brown eyes and even darker brown hair, curly, and down to her shoulders. "Ugh, where am I?" She said, her eyes getting wider as she saw for herself the room.

After hearing what Roman had said, it occurred to Pete that, since there were obviously people from all over the world here, they could be very far from his home in Toronto. A sudden feeling of anxiety, bordering on fear, came upon him. "Well, the more people know, the better the chance we'll be found," he replied to Roman finally.

James finally gave up looking for a button, and came back to where the othes were. "Hopefully they do find us." he said.

The short woman let her eyes wander around the room, taking in the conversations around her. Backing away from Emily, she awkwardly signed, "Room where?"

Emily was too relieved to care about a temporary invasion on anyone's space, hers or the woman's. She clutched her tightly until she backed away, and then the teen gave a rather loud sniffle. She lowered her eyes toward the woman's hands and then frantically moved her hands about the space in front of her. Her expressions changed almost as frantically. I don't know. I thought this was a bad dream. I have a bad feeling about this. Who are these people, Tam? What are they saying?

Not sure if she had correctly understood all of Emily's ideas, Tam responded slowly, shaking her head to indicate a negative, "I know people." She hesitated between each sign as she continued. "They talk where question and work." Countless questions raced through her head that she wanted to ask the others in the room, but she decided they could wait--her friend was as confused as she was, and likely Tam was the only one who knew any ASL at all.

This made Emily look rather disappointed as she briefly surveyed the room before looking again at Tam. They did not seem very concerned with her. It made her a little angry. She bit her bottom lip, two bright teeth peeping out for several minutes. There was a very strange feeling in her gut, but she ignored it, tucking a bothersome strand of hair behind her ear.

She raised her hands again. Slowly, and with a shaky breath inward, Emily lifted her hands and pointed her index finger below her lip, toward Annette by her side and then Naomi, and then brought her hand to her chest before making a motion with both of them. Then she presented Tam with five quick movements of her fingers, each one clearly enunciated as much as she could. Tell them my name is E-M-I-L-Y.

Tam nodded with both her head and her hand to say, "Yes." She turned to the others in the room. "I'm Tam, and this is Emily. Who are the rest of you? Does anybody know why we're here, or how we got here?"

"Well, I'm Pete," said Pete simply. "And no, so far none of us has been able to figure out anything yet," he added grimly.

The young woman groggily stood up from her bed and rubbed her eyes. "Uh, who are you guys?" She asked no one in particular.

Not entirely sure how else to interact with anyone, and seeing them engaged in talking anyway, Emily scooted to the edge of her bed and swung her legs over the end. She looked at Annette and offered her an apologetic expression, pointing again to her ears. But she did extend her hand outward from her lips, hoping that maybe the woman would understand her appreciation. Thank you.

The one who was studying everyone slowly approached Roman. He stood five feet away from him, just looking.

"Are you an astronaut?" the boy asked, ignoring the previous question.

"Where I'm from we are called Cosmonauts, but yes." said Roman. "I'm Roman. What's your name?"

The old woman woke again, with a start. "It could be Purgatory," She continued, as if she never fell asleep. "Wait a minute," She looked around. "What happened?"

"Hmm?" The old woman asked as she slowly shifted her body so her legs hung off the bed. "Where are we? I remember waking up here... Deary me, Agatha was expecting me at five... what time is it?"
