So, as some of you might know, Daggerfall is an older game with less-than-modern controls, but what you might not know is that it works pretty well with a gamepad. Not as well as native controller support, but IMO, it works well enough to use. So, to begin, you'll need:
  1. Xpadder
  2. Wired Xbox 360 controller
  3. Official Xbox 360 controller chatpad
  4. Windows 7

Note: This tutorial assumes you know how to use Xpadder.

  1. The first part is the hardest. In order to use the best configuration possible with a non-Steam Controller gamepad (and even then), you'll need to follow this guide. If you're a hardcore controller user on PC, it's worth it. If not, try the next post's tutorial.
  2. Go to the directory you installed the chatpad program to and replace chatpad_config.txt with this one.
  3. Download my Daggerfall Xpadder configuration and load it up in Xpadder.
  4. Change your in-game Daggerfall controls according to the picture below.
  5. Make sure the chatpad program and Xpadder are running and working and you'll be all set :)

Swap slide and turn controls to navigate the automap with the thumbstick better.
Change the mode buttons to be more convenient to use on the chatpad (will be just below the d-pad).
Activate cursor no longer activates when saving games.
Sneak no longer causes DOSBox to minimize when exiting or opening menus.

I since added the rest of keys and analog movement.
This is the map for when the right trigger is hold and it sets mouse sensitivity to max to let you attack.
It also changes the thumbstick to turn instead of strafe.

I made this Xpadder configuration in like ten seconds for those who can't use the chatpad. It should work fine. To begin, you'll need:
  1. Xpadder
  2. Any Xbox 360-equivalent gamepad that Xpadder can see.

Note: This tutorial assumes you know how to use Xpadder.

  1. Download my Daggerfall (no chatpad) Xpadder configuration and load it up in Xpadder.
  2. Change your in-game Daggerfall controls according to the picture below.
  3. Make sure Xpadder is running and working and you'll be all set :)
