Whiterun bug/glitch

Im on the quest Before the Storm (where you have to go talk to the Jarl of Whiterun) and the main door to the town is locked, and needs a key. I have tried waiting, but it never seems to open. Is there something i have missed?

When you first walk up to the gate gaurds ahould stop you and ask why you are there.

Idk what to tell you, because the gates are locked. And either persuading the gaurds to open it for you, killing them and taking the key, or go with the gaurenteed quest dialouge is the only way besides console that i know of how to get in with out gaurds.

I have been waiting - i've waited for freakin 12 in game days... NO ONE IS SHOWING UP

also i've found another glitch - every other city i go into instantly kills me, or leaves me with 0 health yet still alive and unable to be killed.

I have the EXACT same problem. How do u fix this? Do not want to reinstall...
